Live: Chile remains on tsunami watch, no damage due to quake

8:15 am: Tsunami warning still in place in Chile


Some reports indicate that the tsunami warning may have been withdrawn for all regions in South and Central America barring Chile.


A Chilean minister has said that the tsunami warning will remain in place for at least the next six hours.

8:00 am: Waves as high as 6.9 feet hit Chilean coast


7:30 am: 2 metre high waves reported, coastal areas evacuated


The BBC reports that the coastal areas of Chile have been evacuated following the tsunami warning.


US authorities were quoted by reports as saying that waves as high as 2.11 metres were generated by the massive earthquake.


However, Chilean authorities said that there had been no major damage cause to infrastructure caused by the massive earthquake.
