Amrita Rai files hacking complaint with police

Summary

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under sections of the IT Act and have started investigations.

A day after pictures of Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh and TV journalist Amrita Rai went viral online, Rai on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police crime branch, alleging that her personal email account was hacked, police said.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under sections of the IT Act and have started investigations. According to the police, Rai, in a written complaint, alleged that unknown people hacked her Twitter and Facebook accounts and accessed her personal photographs.

She alleged that the culprits then posted the pictures on a fake Facebook account. She stated that this was done to malign her image, police said. “We have now booked unknown persons under IT Act but sections like 509 (insulting woman’s modesty) will be added as per the findings of our probe,” said a police officer.
