Dolby Atmos, the latest audio technology for cinemas from Dolby Laboratories, is now available at Delite Cinemas in Daryaganj, one of the oldest screens in the Capital. This is the first screen in North India to offer Dolby Atmos, the new technology which replaces traditional 7.1 or 11.1 sound systems with an array of speakers that give more control over sound to filmmakers.
Shashank Raizada, the owner of Delite Cinemas, said the satisfaction of offering a better movie experience to his customers was enough for him to go for the upgrade which cost him around Rs 70,00,000 including the Dolby processor, amplifiers and new speakers. Delite Cinemas will now have a 64-speaker array, compared to the Radio Corporation of America mono system with which it launched in 1955.
Ashim Mathur, Marketing Head of Dolby Laboraties India, said he was happy to finally offer the technology in the national capital. “We are confident that moviegoers will be captivated by remarkable clarity and new dimensions that Dolby Atmos will offer them,” he added.
With Atmos, directors can have sound pinpointed at any speaker in the theatre, which could be 64 as in the case of Delite Cinemas or 128 sound streams. Moving sound from one speaker to another, helps creatie effects never heard before in a theatre.
