SIT reopens Muzaffarnagar gangrape case after SC order

The SIT, probing the Muzaffarnagar riot cases, has reopened a gangrape case of Phugana village, following a Supreme Court directive.

Appearing before a woman magistrate Friday, the victim recorded her statement and said she was gangraped by five men.

According to officials, a final report was filed by the SIT on the basis of the victim’s earlier statement where she had turned hostile.

The case has been reopened on the directive of the SC, which ordered that statement of victims in all gangrape cases in Phugana be recorded again before a woman magistrate, sources said.

Five persons are accused of allegedly gangraping the 30-year-old woman during communal riots in Muzaffaranagar last year.

SIT officials said the victim had admitted that she had given the first statement under pressure.

2 Pakistanis cross over, sent back

Attari: Two Pakistani nationals, who inadvertently crossed over to India, were sent back to Pakistan, a senior BSF official said on Friday.

According to BSF’s DIG R P S Jaswal, the two Pakistanis were handed over to the Pakistani Rangers. Jaswal said the duo were apprehended in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, Pakistani national identified as Roshan (28), a resident of Karachi, was nabbed near Attari sector on April 30. After enquiry, it was found that he had crossed over to India inadvertently and was set free on the same day, he said.

In another incident, Sajid Ali (23), also from Karachi, was arrested from Naushera Dhalla sector of Indo-Pak border when he crossed over to India mistakenly Thursday.
