Spice Stellar Glide Mi-438 quick-read review

Spice Stellar Glide Mi 438 is selling at Rs 5,199 Spice Stellar Glide Mi 438 is selling at Rs 5,199

Summary

The phone does a decent job of bringing smart features and internet connectivity to a sub-$ 100 price tag

Android phones are getting cheaper by the day. But are affordable Android phones getting better, given that this operating systems seems to have a liking for higher specs? That was the question we were trying to solve with the Spice Stellar Glide, a smartphone with a box price of Rs 6,249 but selling online at Rs 5,199.

Specs: 4-inch One Glass Solution TFT LCD touchscreen (800×400 pixels) | 1.3GHz dual-core processor | 512MB RAM | 4GB internal memory, microSD up to 32GB | 3G Dual-SIM (both standard SIM) | 2-megapixel rear camera | 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3, GPS | 1350mAh battery | Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Price: Rs 5,199

Design: The Glide has a very simple design and feels a bit too plasticky. For the same reason it also feels unnaturally light, even with the battery in it. The ports are on the top, while the camera is accompanies by a small flash. There is too much space being wasted both above and below the display and actual screen seems a bit crammed by all the black around it.

Screen: This is what you are paying for, or not paying for. So don’t expect the earth out of this screen. It is very sharp and vibrant when you look at it straight. Move your head a bit and dark shadows start enveloping parts of the screen. It is very decent when you are using in a dark room. Under the sun you will be looking for a dark space to type a message or ream a mail. Certainly not one of the strong points of this device, still very livable screen given the price.

Performance: Let us not go into benchmark tests with a phone like this. It just isn’t made to compete with the bigwigs and scores prove that beyond an element of doubt. It can multi-task and let you play games without much of a problem. After all, this phone has a dual-core processor which has now become a standard in entry-level devices. The phone does heat up when you are pushing it to do stuff it doesn’t want to. It would have a groaned if it could.

Camera: It is a 2MP camera. I guess you get the picture of what I mean. Yes, the camera can shoot pictures, but does not have auto focus. The results are good in natural light.

Storage: The phone has 4GB internal storage out of which you get to use about half. There is support for up to 32GB of external storage and we suggest you get at least 8GB more to benefit from Android.

Software: The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean interface has been tweaked a bit. The icons are a bit different from stock Android but still keep their character. You will certainly not continued…
