Lucknow: A day after a video was released of Imran Massod, the Congress candidates from Saharanpur, threatening to cut BJP’s Narendra Modi into pieces, he was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police early on Saturday morning.

Masood was reportedly arrested around 3:20 am and is presently in police custody.

“We acquired a video of Imran Masood yesterday and after verifying it a case was filed under sections 153 A 295A 504 506 IPC, 125 RP ACT, 310 SC ST ACT,” a senior police official said.

Masood is expected to be produced before a court today.

The arrest could have larger implications for Masood, with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi likely to cancel his rally in Saharanpur after the controversy, reported CNN-IBN.

A video of the speech, which has gone viral on the web, showed Masood attacking BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi during an election rally in Saharanpur, saying he will “chop him (Modi) into tiny pieces”.

“If Modi tries to make Uttar Pradesh into Gujarat, then we will chop him into tiny pieces… I am not scared of getting killed or attacking someone. I will fight against Modi. He thinks UP is Gujarat. Only 4 percent Muslims are there in Gujarat while there are 42 per cent Muslims in UP,” he said.

Congress has earlier disapproved of Masood’s remarks.
